Do garden rooms in Chelmsford need planning permission?
Most garden rooms can be built under permitted development, which means no planning application is needed, as long as the building meets the rules on height, size, position and use. For example, a building within 2m of your boundary must be no more than 2.5m high. Different rules can apply to listed buildings, conservation areas and self-contained accommodation.
