Do garden rooms in Brentwood need planning permission?

Usually not. Most garden rooms fall under permitted development, provided they stay within the height and size limits, sit behind the front of the house and are used as part of your home rather than as self-contained living accommodation. If your home is listed or in a conservation area, or your plans go beyond those limits, an application to Brentwood Borough Council may be needed.
